POPULAR PARK RESORT this branch was supplied at a fixed rental from a local powerstation belonging to another road in South Framingham, asit was impossible to keep up steady voltage at the end of theline when depending entirely upon the Milford station. Thestorage battery on this line is at Gouchs Corner, about 8%miles from the main power station. It enables the road to July 25, 1903.) The resistance of the circuit improves the operation of the road will be readily understoodfrom the following considerations: When the battery is dis-charging momentarily at its hour rate, 240 amps., the potential
Text Appearing After Image:
MAIN POWER HOUSE STORAGE-BATTERY HOUSE between the power station and this battery is approximately1 ohm, and the average load on the line is sufficient to causean average drop of 50 volts to 75 volts. The number of cellsinstalled in the battery, 240,balances an average voltageof approximately 500 at thatpoint. Each cell consists of ahard wood tank lined withlead and mounted on four in-sulators, which in turn arecarried on wooden stringers, resting on vitrified bricks. The tanks contain thirteenplates, of the size known astype F, measuring 11 ins. x103^2 ins., but are made largeenough to receive nineteenplates, so that the batterycan be increased 50 per centin capacity by the simple ad-dition of more plates in eachcell, an operation which canbe accomplished, if neces-sary, without taking the bat-tery from service. The bat-tery is rated for a dischargeof 240 amps, at the hour rate. The house is of wood with ashingle roof, and is unfin-ished on the inside. In thefront portion is a small spa
