s is the shaper. In the back-ground, at the left, is a small lathe for cutting threads on boltsand similar work. On one side of the repair shop building is a room for motorinspection and car washing. One end of this room has pits formotor inspection, arranged like the pits in the repair shop.Fig. 8 shows this. All wiring of the building is in iron pipe conduits, and isshown most plainly in Fig. 8. This conduit is run along bothsides of the pit, and combination outlets and sockets are placed September 19, 1903.) STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. 579 at regular intervals. The other end of this room has a brickfloor, well drained, over which the car washing is done. On the other side of the repair shop building are the paintshop, carpenter shop, blacksmith shop, armature winding roomand stock room. Fig. 9 is a view of the blacksmith shop, and Fig. 10shows the carpenter shop. From this description it will be seen that the details of theseshops were carefully worked out; that the building is well de-signed for the purposes to which it is devoted; that the equip-ment is complete and practicable, and that every facility isoffered for ordinary repairs, such as will commonly need to bemade on interurban equipments. Those chiefly responsible for the excellence of these shopsare Will Christy, Akron, Ohio, who was general manager ofthe road during construction, and W. L. Morris, mechanicalengineer during construction. The road is at present under thegeneral management of E. C. Faber, and the shops are underthe immediate charge of Master Mechanic Miles.
