The officers of the Interurban Railway Company are H. H.Polk, president and manager, Des Moines; A. W. Harris, vice-president, Chicago; George B. Hippee, treasurer, Des Moines;W. I. Haskett, secretary, Des Moines; J. F. Johnston, generalfreight agent; E. B. Beigler, general passenger agent; JamesL. Welch, master mechanic. N. W. Harris & Company,liankers, of Boston and Chicago, floated the bonds and are thefinancial backers of the undertaking. AUTOMOBILES FOR INSPECTING It may be a case of setting a bad example to the generalpublic, but a number of prominent electric railway officials havediscovei-ed that when it comes to getting around a city quicklyand comfortably the average street car is not in it with a speedyautomobile.

Andrews and General ManagerJohn J. Stanley, with a couple of employees, were starting ona line inspection trip covering several outlying districts of thecity. Mr. Stanley is at the wheel, while the president-to-be ofthe Cleveland consolidated system is on the right. Both gentle-men have recently purchased handsome Winton touring carsand use them frequently in trips about the city and surroundingcountry. For such work the automobile has the advantage overthe private car in that it may traverse short routes, and is notheld up by scheduled traffic, besides furnishing a pleasant outingnot attainable under the old method.
