With the paving of the city with modern American pave-ments, new 8-in. girder rails are being laid, to be followed laterby new cars and a trolley service. The J. G. Brill Company has lately finished four of its pat-ented convertible cars for the Butler Passenger Railway Com-pany, making the third order for this t3pe of car from this com-pany. Butler is a busy though small city, situated about 40miles north of Pittsburg. A fine large amusement park isowned by the trolley company. The cars make a handsome appearance, as the illustrationsshow. The double corner posts and vestibule posts which givesupport to the roof are of Ti)i-m. thickness. The side sills are5^4 ins. X 6 ins., plated with ys-in. x 6-in. steel. The platformtimbers are reinforced with angle-iron, and strengthened andprotected by angle-iron bumpers. The end sills are 4^4 ins. x6 ins. The side posts have a thickness of 3% ins. and a sweepof 5 ins. Grooves in the posts, over which the panels andsashes slide into the roof pockets, are entirely of metal, thuspreventing sticking and keeping the action of these slidingparts uniformly easy.
