wnseveral times within the last fewmonths, in the case of several largecar sheds that had Ixen erected byprogressive companies at consider-able expense, but without fully com-plying with the requirements of theUnderwriters. In one case the areawas considerably in excess of thatallowed—in fact, this defect alonewould have made the rejection of theproperty almost certain, and then,too, the roof construction was notacceptable. Unfortunately, a firevisited this property and, as mighthave been predicted, resulted in thecomplete destruction of the building and almost an entire lossof contents. Only a few cars were saved, although the shedswere filled when the fire was discovered. The roof fell in soonafter the fire was discovered. The iron work was not properlyprotected, and the intensity of the heat from the burning carssoon bent and twisted the girders so that the workmen and fire-men were in danger, and had to be withdrawn. The collapseof the roof completed the destruction of the cars.

The order for the controller equipmentsand 340 motors was given to the General Electric Company, position. In either case the spring causes the operating cylinderto follow the movement of the handle until it reaches a positioncorresponding to that of the operating handle.
