At the Man-hattan terminal there should be a most comprehensive plan forthe distribution and collection of the traffic by means of sub-ways or elevated structures. There should be, as one of theconnections of this bridge, a crosstown line over or underCanal Street to West Street, connecting with all the north andsouth lines, and these connections should be made one of theimportant features of the operation. But the principal distrib-uting agency of this bridge should be a subway which will besufficiently commodious to take the passengers by trolley carand elevated train direct to the Wall Street district.
