The line extends in a generally easterndirection through the city and suburbs to Carsonia Park,which is 3I miles from the starting point. Here the line ofthe ( )ley \ alley Railway Company actually begins, ex-tending J85 miles in a circuitous route through a very hillycountry, encountering a number of sharp curves and heavygrades. ()ne of these curves, which is of especial interest,is illustrated herewith. The cut shows a horseshoe-curvenear Shanesville and a general view of the locality. It willgive some idea of the difficulties which the company en-countered in building this line. There is another curve afew miles from this point, which is almost an exact dupli-cate of the one here illustrated.
