That this device more nearly approxi-mates the ideal brake for electrically-operated cars than any otherappliance yet invented is firmly believed by the company. By asimple and ingenious combination of a magnetic track brake witha wheel brake of maximum power, a braking effect of greatstrength is produced, while, in addition to this, cars equippedwith the complete apparatus can be comfortably heated in winterwithout the use of line current, and, consequently, without cost. amining the accompanying illustrations, the brake proper com-prises (i) a double track-shoe of peculiar construction, combinedwith a powerful electromagnet which, when energized by currentproduced by the car motors acting as generators, is strongly at-tracted to the rail by magnetic force; (2) brake-heads and shoesof the ordinary type, acting directly on the wheels and constituting
