The committee want it understood that this refers to land andbuildings purchased in connection with securing right of way, andreal estate used in operation of road, but not a part of either, al-though incident to the construction and equipment of the road. Thisdoes not refer to the purchase of land and buildings bought forthe purpose of investing surplus funds of the company, whichshould be charged to a special account; for example, SurplusInvestments. It having been suggested to your committee thatthe instructions concerning this account were not sufficiently clearor explicit, and that Investment Real Estate was not a construc-tion and equipment account, we submit the above for your infor-mation.
