($5.04 to $6) per week; stove at-tendants, 28s. to 30s. ($6.72 to $7.20); laborers, 25s. to 27s.($6 to $6.48) per week. The city furnishes the uniforms. The plans of the company for electrical constructionwere described fully in an article in the Street Rail-way Journal for July, by J. Clifton Robinson, managingdirector of the company. Both the trolley and under-ground systems will be used. The former will cover about20 miles, and is now under construction. It will be located,of course, in the suburban portion of the route. The roadwill be operated on the three-wire system, and two trolleywires will be carried over each track, making a completemetallic return. No. 9. overhead wires will be divided into half-mile sections, and,in order to meet the Board of Trade requirements, eachif miles of the line will be supplied by an independentfeeder running direct to the power station. The neutralreturn will also be reinforced for each section of a mile anda half by a separate feeder. The power station will be at High Road, Chiswick, andwill have a capacity of 5000 h.p. The engine room willcontain at present three 750-h.p. engines, each driving a500-kw., three-phase 500-volt generator, with a frequencyof 25 cycles per second.
