He plotted a series of curves showingthe total amount of indicated power developed by the loco-motive in hauling trains at various speeds and ratios ofadmission in the two cylinders. All these curves were re-duced to the case of moving on a level and with no accel-eration. Deducing the power required for hauling thetrain, he found curves showing the power required formoving the locomotive and tender alone, for the case of alevel track and no acceleration. I have plotted these curves in Fig. 3. The heavy lineshere correspond to the case of an admission of 0.7, and thelight lines to admissions of 0.4-0.5,in the low pressure cy-linders.
