The square sides give roominess of car inside, and thepatent vestibules of the St. Louis Car Company protect the motor- in character to that of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in theBelt Line tunnel, in Baltimore, has a length of 3700 m., of which3100 m. are underground, and electric locomotives are to be em-ployed to avoid the gases of combustion in the tunnel. Thesubstitution of electric locomotives for steam locomotives willtake place at the Austerlitz Depot in the outskirts of the city,while a stop is made to discharge passengers, and from that pointto the main station at the Quai dOrsai trains will be drawn byelectric power.
