Corre-sponding points of each wire areconnected by suitable curves insuch a way that each feeder be-comes continuous from the stationto its end. Since the offsets aremade in a direction perpendicularto the scale, the length of thecurved connection is immaterial. In our system each wire has adistinguishing number taken fromthe pin it occupies on the FirstStreet pole line where it leaves thestation. With few exceptions it wasfound convenient to lay down thewires in the order in which they ap-pear on the pole line; where thiswas not the case the pin numbersare shown on the map. Jumpers, breakers, feeding points, etc., maybe shown with facility. Varioussizes of cables are given distin-guishing colors in the original mapand by lines of different character,as dotted, dashed and solid in theengraving. Considering the complexity ofthe Nassau system, it seems un-likely that the special features ofany other would present any seri-

By thus mapping as parallel all streets traversed by thefeeders, and omitting all others, much is gained in the wayof compactness, for it will be seen that, whereas the area ofa common map is proportional to the square of the linearscale, that of the new form varies as the first power. Thentoo the convenience of being able to read at a glance thedistance between points on the system is not to be regardedlightly. Information of this nature is constantly in de-mand for various purposes. The time saved, to say noth-ing of the accuracy gained, by reference to the linear scalecompared with that required for reference to the tabulateddata (which never contains the points concerned) or ofstepping off with dividers for a string) on the city map, isconsiderable. Not less useful are the scales B and C. At every pointon the line there exists a definite relation between the cur-rent flowing,
