The entire construction has been of the most substan-tial quality, to permit high speeds with a minimum dangerof accident and repair accounts. In order to avoid a grade crossing with the NorthernCentral Railroad tracks, and further in order to span asmall stream and the streets in Mount Washington,a singletrack steel viaduct about 1400 ft. long was constructed.This is one of the most interesting features of the line, andis illustrated in the engravings on page 177. The spans over the Northern Central Railroad consist of two plategirders 68 ft. long x 5 ft. deep, placed 14 ft. between cen-ters and supported by steel towers. A clear headway of22 ft. was required above the top of the steam rails.
