the new electric railway atMonte Carlo, Monaco, is shown in the accompanying engravings. back. In the first-class compartment the seats are upholsteredand covered with olive plush. In the second-class compartmentthe seats are of cherry slats with high backs. This portion ofthe car is very plain, but the first-class compartment is highlyornamented and finely finished. The car is mounted on No. 21-E trucks. The side frames aremade of solid forgings, and the outer ends of the frame carryhalf-elliptic springs. At the axle boxes there are double journalsprings, as well as a pair of spirals resting on the frame. Thecombined action of these springs gives a very easy riding carbody, as well as great steadiness of motion. The truck is metergage and 6-ft. 6-in. wheel base. It is fitted with G. E. 53 electricmotors. The wheels are 33 ins. diameter, Brill pattern centerswith steel tires. The car is fitted with electric, in addition to theordinary hand, brakes. EXTERIOR OF CAR FOR MONTE CARLO, MONACO The cars are being built by the J. G. Brill Company, and in manyrespects are unique and quite out of the ordinary American prac-tice. They are 19 ft. 2 ins. long over the end panels, and withthe 4 ft. 2 ins. platforms measure 27 ft. 6 ins. over the dashers. Thebody is 6 ft. ins. wide at the sills and 6 ft. 8J4 ins- wide overthe posts. The specifications state that the car cannot exceed 6ft. 10% ins. at the widest point.
