It is steamed under a pressure of 100 lbs. per square inch.Steam is allowed to enter very slowly, and after having the sapthoroughly coagulated in this way it is removed to the dry house andafter remaining there for a weeks time the moisture has been thor-oughly removed from it. The cabinet shop, which is a large building two stories high,200 ft. X 42 ft., is fitted up in the lower story with a complete set ofmodern wood working machinery for getting out the material forsteam, passenger, electric or horse car work. There are also con-nected with this department carving and routing machines to savehand work. The carving is largely a hand product and the carvingmachine merely used to save labor in roughing, routing and thegeneral work which requires neither taste nor artistic ability. Theupper part of this shop is devoted to the finer portions of the cabinetwork and the finishing and putting together of the work which isbrought from below by an elevator. From the upper portion of theshop there is a covered bridge to the second floor of the erecting shop.
