This company is a consolidation of thePennsylvania Motor Company, the Easton & BethlehemTransit Company, the Easton Transit Company, and thePhillipsburg Street Railway Company. Power is takenfrom the station of the local Edison Illuminating Com-pany at the corner of Washington and 16th Streets. Thecompany has forty motor cars, all from the works of theJ. G. Brill Company, and about twenty miles of track. All of the cars are equipped with a double set ofbrakes operated by two brake levers, one lever setting thefour inside shoes, and the other the four outside shoes.The cars are all provided with extra long platforms, andcontain a special compartment for the motorman, so thathe may be unimpeded in controlling the car and operat-ing the brake levers. An interesting experiment with a balance weight sys-tem for electric cars was made on the College Hill branchof this road. The system was abandoned some time ago,as in the companys opinion no particular benefit wasobtained from its use. The apparatus, however, is still inplace, and is the only example of its kind, so far as weknow, outside of the somewhat similar system at Port-land, Ore., and described in our issue for May, 1893.
