The material betweenthe rails and on each side is vitrified brick, but betweenthe tracks there will be a strip of asphalt to correspondwith the asphalt paving on the remainder of the street.The combination of asphalt and brick paving between thetracks is used to comply with the requirements of thedistrict commissioners. The closed cars to be placed in service on this linewhen completed are modeled after those of the Broad-way, New York, cable road, except that they will beabout two feet shorter. They will be built by the JohnStephenson Company, of New York, which company willalso build the open cars. The grip will be operated fromthe front platform. FARE AND TRANSFERS. The fare on the Columbia Railroad is at present fivecents, with six tickets for twenty-five cents and schooltickets thirty-three for $1. Transfers are made with one
