The east and west walls start from thestone fouudations in two courses of brickof the full width of 2 4, and thenfaU backbetween the but tresses A on each courseuntil the thickness of the main wall (20)is reached, whence it runs up to the fuUheight of the second story, the buttressesbeing 28 thick. The window sills of common axed bluestone are set 5 6 above the stone founda-tions. Thelintelsnre of the same material. A granite block 8 thick and 24 square isplaced in these walls opposite each buttressand flush with the inside face of the wallto carry the 12 X 15 girders. These side walls are 16 thick up throughthe second and third story and 12 inchesabove; the wh ole being built of hard up river

The side walls are further copedabove the roof with 3 feet X 16 inches cop-ing stone, the buttresses with 3 inches X 24inches of square edged common axed blue-stone, and the chimney is capped by a 5inch X 24 inches X 5 inches X 4 inches per-forated blue-stone cap square edged andcommon axed. The rear wall is 20 inches thick on firststory, 16 inches on second and 12 inches onthird, laid up in the same manner as wehave indicated for the side waUs. The front wall is 16 inches thick at theoffice with the door sills 21 inches abovethe top of the main foundation, proiectin^;2 inches beyond the face of the wall andare leveled to throw the water out. On thesecond floor the front wall is 16 inchesthick and 12 inches on the third. All sillsand lintels on this front are of fine axedblue stone, and the whole front is facedup with a first quality of Collabar
