106 THE SATURDAY EVENING POST December 18,1920 Much of this saving is accomplished by the Haughtonmethod of retarding and stopping the motor, which notonly saves current but also insures accurate floor landingsand thereby eliminates current waste in jockeying forfloors. In illustration of this fact it will be noted that thepower saving indicated by the above curves increases withthe number of stops, which in the case of most passengerelevators ranges from /yo to joo stops per car per mile.

10 to 20 Per Cent Greater Efficiency The Result of Individual Methods HAUGHTON elevators havebeen developed to a very greatextent without regard for the prac-tices generally prevailing in theelevator industry. Building for efficiency first of all,many accepted theories have beendiscarded whenever better resultsappeared probable by using somedifferent method. Instead of building for low firstcost, emphasis has always beenplaced on the importance of the* highest possible economy of opera-tion. As a result, principles of con-struction have been perfected thathave proved in tests to be 10 to 20per cent more efficient than otherstandard types of elevator design. Haughton construction stand-ards also guarantee unusualstrength and durability, increasingthe life of the equipment andgreatly lessening the expense ofupkeep and repairs.
