DescriptionThe Relationship between the Structure of the Mind, Intellectual Aptitude & Culture.png |
English: Illistration (a) to (d) show the cognitive aptitudes of a series of hypothetical individuals, whose thoughts are dominated by one of the four domains of cognition as a result of one cognitive area being significantly larger than and, therefore dominant over, the other three. When BA9 is dominant, the individual’s most prominent form of intelligence is emotional intelligence (a). A similar relationship exists between the size of the other three parts of the mind (BA10, 46 & 47) and the forms of intelligence they support (temporal, abstract and practical) (b), (c) and (d). (e) to (h) Illustration of the outcome of enlarging the source of two domains of cognition such that they conjointly dominate the behavior of the individual. As the size of Brodmann’s areas is determined by genes, it follows that, in any relatively isolated human population, selection will have operated to bring forth the forms of intelligence that best serve that populations survival. The result of this process is the natural selection of a modal personality (see text) that will be a potent determinant of the culture of that population. Adapted from: Snow, P. J. (2003) J.
