Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Purple Haze of a Dying Sun (15602018982).jpg |
its amazing how sometimes, when you point your camera at a dying sun, how the colour that makes it onto your film was not visible at the time. Here, on the shore of Durdle Door, I took this image of a collapsing sun without a single idea that this is what had come out! Location - Durdle Door, Dorset Year Taken - October 2014 Camera - Canon 5d MKiii Lens - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Filters - Lee Circular Polariser and ND Grad 0.9 Durdle Door I thought that it was about time that I made the most of living in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. Not too far from me, sits Durdle Door; part of the fabled Jurassic Coast line of southern England. The cliffs you see in this image were formed over 180 million years ago, and washed up upon the coast have been various dinosaurs that I sadly did not get to see today :). Its one of the places in this slowly dying country that still give you some element of pride, some facet of time and place. You see it in so many other countries, places of intrigue and history. In the UK, we are limited in what we can work with and normally, it takes a great photographer to carve out a beautiful piece of art from what we are normally faced with. At Durdle Door, this is most certainly not the case. The image you see here, I took about 2 hours ago; just before the sun decided to bugger off for the day. It is a 5 shot merged image, using a circular polariser and a 0.9 ND Grad filter. Colours like this are almost impossible to reproduce without a polariser and due to me being out in the midday sun, an ND Grad was a must to not over-expose the sky whilst still correctly exposing the rocks and grass. |
