Grizzley bear killed by one of the Editors collectors assistants and theMountain West of Battle River, Alberta, Canada, Spring 1917. 156 THE OOLOGIST From the Far Northwest A collector of the Oologlst locatedon the Peace River, Northwest Alber-ta Province, Canada, writes amongthings: I did practically nothing in eggcollecting this Spring, taking only oneset of Canada Goose which containedthe usual number of seven eggs, andone of the Night Hawk. The Springwas so late and snow held on so longthat I gave up the Hay River trip andwent bear hunting on the Thirdbranch of Battle River instead. Wehad only fair success, getting fiveblack bear, two browns and a grizzly.I saw many hawks nests, but the fewthat were occupied were Redtails andI did not bother with them. I think the lack of Hawks and Owlsbreeding is to be attributed to thesame cause as the scarcity of fur ani-mals, and that is a lack of rabbits.In this country at intervals of aboutseven years, rabbits became so numer-ous that they s
