| Description |
English: I am from the East Indian city of Kolkata, known for it's eternal love for fish. However, people here prefer river fish which has never been my thing. I love sea fish and thus I loved the 2 years of living in the South Indian city of Bangalore. It is here that I first tastes 'Bangda' fish, also called Indian Mackerel. It is full of flavour and has a salty aftertaste.
In Kolkata I found an online website called 'Jalongi' selling this and I knew that I had to try it. So I ordered some Bangda for myself and fried it with rava or semolina after dousing it in a variety of spices and condiments (red chilli powder, cumin, salt, tamarind, lemon juice etc). It was absolutely delicious! Bangda and other similar sea fish are eaten in several states including Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka. One of the things that I miss the most about living in the South is their wide variety of sea fish made into delectable curries. |
