It providesstreets through which the main lines f sewers can be con-structed with the least amount of work; it was taken intoconsideration that in the present and future appearance of thestreets there shall be no abrupt and broken grades, that thereshall be ample opportunity of placing large and importantbuildings where their architectural effects shall be enhancedand not smothered; it provides broad thoroughfares to thenew system of parks, and at the most eligible points; it pro-vides for aslittle injury in die subdivision of private propertyas possible; it provides for business and manufacturing sec-tions as well as for suburban districts for residences ; itprovides for the readiest access to railroad stations and thewater front; it provides for safety at all railroad crossings.All these general considerations have been regarded in thefinal arrangement of the lay-out.
