Summary[edit]

Description

"I have long considered [the Electoral College] the most dangerous blot on our Constitution." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1823 _____________________________________

The electoral college makes our very elections a sham, where your vote does not count.

Are you a democrat living in Texas? A conservative living in California? A libertarian living... well, anywhere?

Are you sick and tired of your vote having no meaningful substance?

Of the fact that a third party literally has an absolute 0% chance of winning a major election (Remember, Ross Perot had 19 million popular votes and a whopping 0 electoral votes, as opposed to Bill Clinton's 44 million popular votes and 370 electoral votes).

  • In 1992, Bill Clinton only got 43% of the popular vote. The majority of voters opposed him, voting for two anti-Liberal candidates.

  • In 1996, Bill Clinton only got 48% of the vote, again with a majority voting anti-Liberal.

  • In 2000, George Bush got 48% of the vote, with a majority going to two Liberal candidates, one of whom actually got more votes; 49%.

The sole reason to use majority votes to determine government is that it's the smallest amount that proves that opposition to the winner must amount to less than the winner's support.

The electoral college destroyed that, in three elections in a row.

It makes the elections, in a sense, invalid.

If there had been a run-off, between the two greatest vote-getters, then there would have been far less question of the legitimacy of the winner.
