Description |
The Dragor pump. Advertising poster. Elevateurs Dragor, l'eau pure partout. A Dragor water pump for raising water from a well, and uses of abundant clean water; advertising Dragor water pumps. Colour lithograph by P. Igert, 1935. Imprint Le Mans (Sarthe) : [Établissements Dragor et Alma?], [1935] (Paris : Création 1935 des Imprimeries Joseph-Charles). The Dragor pump was operated manually: it contained a wheel around which was suspended a looped cord which hung down within a well and to which numerous small cups were attached. By turning a handle, the user could rotate the cord so that the cups on the rising part of the cord would scoop up water and eject it at the top (through a dragon's mouth) into a container Four scenes: (top left) a man using a water-hose to put out a house-fire; (bottom left) a man sprying water on to plants; (top right) a man enjoying a shower; (bottom right) a horse drinking from a cistern Iconographic Collections |
