Location - Lulworth, Dorset Year Taken - April 2016 Camera - Canon 5dSR Lens - Canon 16-35mm f/4 USM Aperture - f/11 ISO - 50 Exposure Time - 1.5 seconds Filters - Lee Landscape Polariser, Lee Pro Glass 2-Stop and ND Grad H0.9

The other night, I spent an hour or so alone at Lulworth. There was such colour in the sky when the sun finally decided to drop out of view and it wasn't long before a beautiful, orange hailstorm was overhead. They dropped like bombs, bashing my camera and the back of my neck as I ducked for cover. But they didn't last long, passing and skidding out towards sea slowly enough for me to dry off my camera and set up to try and capture them.

A few moments later, another storm appeared, but this time over Portland. I set up into what I thought was the best composition and managed to capture this angry, warm storm as it appeared to lash the little island that sits at the foot of all of Dorset.

Sometimes, sunsets are better when you aren't facing the sun perfectly. The light is softer and the colours more rich. Polarisers also work better when you are around 45 degrees from the source of the light. This shot over Portland was the perfect angle to capture colour, contrast and diminish reflections; creating an image that really jumps out at you. How I love my polariser!
