Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Coast - Seattle issue, 1909.jpg |
English: Cover of "Special Seattle number" of The Coast (Volume 18, number 3) September 1909. |

Source | https://www.flickr.com/photos/seattlemunicipalarchives/4864006470/. They state "all rights reserved" but, as they explain in a comments on the page, this is because "[The City of Seattle] law department wants us to be clear that we cannot guarantee that non-city materials are free of copyright, and that users assume the responsibility for determining their copyright status. We are not claiming copyright for ourselves on these material..." Clearly a U.S. magazine cover from 1909 is public domain (pre-1923 publication in the U.S.). |

This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |

This is looking north (really NNW) on Second Avenue. In the background at left is the building now known as the Broadacres Building; at right the New Washington Hotel (now Josephinum) and (barely visible, farther away) Moore Theatre and Hotel. One of the buildings at right is presumably the Second & Pine Building, which also survives from this era.
