COCHIN MALE SHA PE—By Sewell. An Ideal Cochin. Drawn by Franklane L. Sewell for the Reliable Poultry Journal, under the Suggestions of ProminentJudges and Breeders-The Outcome of Criticism Upon the Cochin Male Shape Shown on the Opposite Page. 46 THE ASIATICS. it a little too stumpy, and the serrations seem too blunt. Ilike a fine serration, even on a Buff Cochin male. Of courseI want the comb thick next to the head. 0. E. Skinner, Kansas, breeder of Buff and PartridgeCochins: Referring to the Cochin cuts just received, I begto state that while this shape is fine to look at, if you un-dertake to breed birds of this type, exactly, you wouldsurely fail in Standard weights. They are too short in backand body. I am not criticising the shape to any extent, butmy judgment is, a longer back and body, or else less weightfor mature birds. I find my best shaped birds, like thesecuts, are always short on Standard weights, although I ad-mire them. W. A. Ryon, Missouri, breeder of Buff Cochins:
