ied roll films and quickly sawthat when it came to making enlarged negatives from nega-tives taken on roll-films the amount of dirt, etc., that had beenpicked up by the films made them quite useless for this kindof work. 14 My training in landscape photography was a severe one,under men who were masters in their craft, and who exactedthe very best in everything; hence it will readily be understoodthat it is difficult for anyone educated in such a school to breakaway from authority. I am, however, quite convinced thatthe worship of large size cameras for field work is a mistakeon the part of the professional publisher. Much more work,and much better work can be done by a judicious reduction insize and weight. Moreover, I have come to regard workingfrom re-produced negatives as of itself quite a step forward,owing to the opportunities afforded of making improvementsin one way and another.
