Foliage with straight stems calledstiff-leafed foliage is common in the caps of columnswhere they are not round or smooth. This was perforated first by round holes. In theEarly English these perforations became more ornamental, thecircles were cusped in the inside, yet the pattern was not lost:the stone dominated the glass. In the Decorated work thissubdivision became more intricate from the insertion of seriesof circles (geometrical) to intricate patterns of tracery (curvi-linear). (Fig. 8.)
