Summary[edit]

Description

This year was the last of more that 10 years of excavations at the Imiwaia I site in Cambaceres. The excavation revealed shell middens deposited within a time span of nearly 6000 years. More surprising was the occupation layer (the S-layer) underneath the shellmidden formations, consisting of lithic scatters and only very little organic material. The site was dated to 7800 BP (ca 6600 BC), and was the second of its kind in the Beagle Channel region.
