Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Theodore Terry had been in Togtown two weeks before the girls knew he was married and it was two months before we heard that he had rented the best house in town and that Mrs. Terry was surely coming. We saw him, for we lived next door, run down the steps on his way to the station to meet her. His coat was brand new, too, a rain coat. It did look some like rain. The coat had a broad back and a belt across it. It was dark, dark gray, and there wasn't a thing in the pockets to make them sag. Mrs. Terry couldn't be half as nice as he. We, Martha and I, were sorry she was coming. It takes a woman to spoil a man.
Mrs. Theodore Terry came and we saw her going up the front walk. We expected something fine; and if she didn't have on a rain coat! A pretty one, though. It was soft gray with a military cape. The buttons were metal and a belt of the material fastened in front with a big button. The sleeves were large and finished with a cuff with a big button. Her hat wasn't very stylish; we were disappointed. It was a simple gray straw with just a knot of velvet ribbon at the side running down toward the front and over the brim and fastened with another knot close to her hair. She carried a little black hand bag and we think that our wrist bags will have to be laid aside. Martha insists that there was something red on Mrs. Terry's collar. I couldn't see very well, the curtain was too thick."
