Tear drop cells, also known as dacrocytes or dacryocytes, are abnormally shaped red blood cells (erythrocytes) that appear in peripheral blood smears when examined under a microscope.

Description
English: Tear drop cells are characterized by their elongated, teardrop or pear-shaped appearance, which distinguishes them from the typical biconcave disc shape of normal erythrocytes. The presence of teardrop cells may prompt further investigation to determine the underlying cause, especially if other abnormal blood cell findings are present. In the context of myelofibrosis, the presence of teardrop cells can contribute to the diagnosis of this condition.
