Description

Em 1742 D. João V mandou construir uma ermida maior, um convento e um palácio para sua residência, por aquisição de terras agrícolas circundantes. Em 1843, D. Fernando mandou redesenhar o jardim, transformando a zona de hortas em jardim inglês, tarefa executada pelo jardineiro Bonard. Entre 1855 e 1861, D. Pedro V fez construir a estufa circular e por ordem do rei D. Carlos foram construídos um campo de ténis e o Pavilhão, conhecido por Casa do Regalo, que servia de atelier de pintura da rainha D. Amélia. Aqui encontramos: três lagos, o da Palmeira, o das Estrelícias e do Duque de Lafões, rodeados por vegetação exótica; uma cascata; um chafariz e tanque; vários elementos de estatuária dos quais se destaca a "estatuária das Virtudes.
