Description
English: The paybook of Pte Reginald Symonds, taken from the Symonds family archive. Pte Symonds, part of 5 Platoon, 1 Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment, was captured by the Japanese at Singapore approximately two weeks after arriving on the USS West Point. This paybook was held by Pte Symonds throughout his captivity by the Japanese throughout the Second World War. He returned to civilian life in the United Kingdom in 1947. The entry on the left reads: "Taken Prisoner of War / Singapore / 15/2/42". The right-hand entry reads: "Carpenter / B / III".
Français : Livret de solde du soldat (Private) Reginald Symonds, provenant des archives de la famille Symonds. Le soldat Symonds, 5ème escouade, 1er bataillon, Régiment du Cambridgeshire, fut fait prisonnier par les Japonais à Singapour approximativement deux semaines après son arrivée à bord du navire américain USS West Point. Ce livret est resté en possession du soldat Symonds tout au long de sa captivité, jusqu'à la fin de la guerre. Il retourna à la vie civile au Royaume-Uni en 1947.

Author British Army created the book. Reginald Symonds created the handwritten text, his OIC the signature. Both were servants of the crown, image is therefore Crown Copyright and has now expired. Richard Symonds scanned in the book.
