Summary[edit]

Description
English: The other side of the photo. THE POLISH ARMY IN THE MIDDLE EAST, 1942-1943. Group photograph pf members of both teams at the reception held after the game. The Polish soldier in the centre wears a flash of the 3rd Carpathian Rifles Division. Colonel Leopold Okulicki, the CO of the 7th Infantry Division (Polish Army in the East), is on the far right, standing. The football team of the Polish Army in the East became famous for winning many games. In Iran the team was composed almost exclusively of young men who had not reached an age to be able to play in big teams in Poland. Some of them fought in Tobruk and other parts of the Western Desrt. These pictures show a game between the Polish team and one representing Persia, which caused a great interest and drew large crowds. The final score was 3-1 for the Poles.
