Summary[edit]

Description
English: A Soviet-made Helios 44-2 58mm f2 Preset lens. The outer ring is used to set the minimum aperture (an aperture priority strategy). The second or middle ring opens and closes the aperture blades. The middle ring is used to open the blades to f2 for focusing and then spun (to the right) to stop down to the preset (target) aperture. The third ring is the focusing wheel. This is an M42 (42mm x 1mm) screw mount lens. In this image it is resting on a crude M42 to Nikon F adapter ring (operational although the absence of a rear glass element in the adapter makes infinity focusing on a modern DSRL impossible. This photo was taken by a Nikon D40 with an East German Pentacon 50mm f1.78 M42 lens mounted via a proper infinity focusing adapter.
