Description

One of my favorite sounds in the early morning, or early evening is that of a Loon. It is something you just don't forget. Haunting. Listen to the call in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's short video about the Common Loon.

A day after shooting this photo, I had the opportunity to see a Common Loon with it's very young offspring fishing in the shallows. An incredible sight to witness.

Cool Facts: Migrating Common Loons occasionally land on wet highways or parking lots, mistaking them for rivers and lakes. They become stranded without a considerable amount of open water for a long takeoff. A loon may also get stranded on a pond that is too small.
