Description

De Haagse tramtunnel Het Souterrain is een circa 1250 meter lange tunnel voor trams en RandstadRail. De tunnel ligt in het centrum van Den Haag en bevat twee ondergrondse tramhaltes. Een ondergrondse parkeergarage voor 375 auto's maakt deel uit van het project. De officiële benaming voor het project is 'Souterrain', maar in de volksmond wordt hij 'de Tramtanic' of 'de zwemtunnel' genoemd.

De Haagse tramtunnel werd op 16 oktober 2004 geopend door minister Karla Peijs en burgemeester Wim Deetman van Den Haag. Vanwege alle problemen tijdens de bouw zijn de kosten van de bouw opgelopen van €139 miljoen tot €234 miljoen en werd de oplevering met ruim vier jaar vertraagd.
