Summary[edit]
DescriptionSwifnf.jpg |
English: Swifnf Kemi Nerthus.
This painting depicts St Margarets Valley, near Dover in Kent. When the English lived in Anglen in north Germany/Denmark before the 455, they worshiped a Goddess called Nerthus (later Freya in Norse myths). At the festival of Nerthus everyone would put down their weapons and stop fighting, however when the festival ended and Goddess travelled back to her sacred island, the slaves that washed her body were drowned in the lake. St Margarets At Cliff may have been a place where this festival was celebrated when the English came to Britain. |
