Description
English: It is a perennial river in the northern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The river's source is in the high glacial valleys of the Hindu Kush mountains.

Facts 1. It is an important tourist destination for its scenic beauty, and former stronghold of the ancient Gandhara region with numerous ancient Buddhist sites scattered through the region. 2. The name "Swat" is derived from Sanskrit term, Srivastu/Suvāstu "clear blue water". In the Rigveda is referred to as the Suvāstu - meaning "of fair dwellings", which has been opined to refer to the presence of Aryan settlements along the river's course. 3. The river begins at the confluence of the Usho & Gabral rivers (also known as the Utrar River) at Kalam. It finally terminates in Kabul River, near Charsadda. 4. The Swat canals irrigate about 160,000 acres (65,000 hectares) in which sugarcane and wheat are the chief crops. 5. Specs: i) Source: Hindu Kush Mountains, Usho and Gabral rivers. ii) Mouth: Kabul River. iii) Elevation: 980 m (3,220 ft). iv) Length: 240 km (150 mi).
