Summary[edit]
DescriptionSurgically removing the scars of FGM-C (12345269614).jpg |
Dr Roland Tibila Zoungrana is a surgeon who specialises in reversal operations for women who've been subject to Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C). These operations re-open the scar and help women pass urine more easily, as well as making sex less painful and childbirth less dangerous. “Recovery takes about three weeks,” says Dr Zoungrana. “My work is so satisfying because the women feel much better afterwards. But surgery is not enough – women should get psychological support too.” The UK is working to reduce the practice of FGM/C by 30% in at least 10 countries in Africa in the next 5 years.
