| Description |
English: Sunrise over Conister Rock. On the promenade, with your back to Douglas, looking east - this little castle is an important local feature of Douglas bay, and you can't miss it. The tower is known as 'The Tower of Refuge' and was built on Conister Rock by Sir William Hillary (founder of the RNLI) in 1832 to provide refuge and shelter for anyone who was unfortunate enough to be wrecked on the rock.
This was taken early one morning in the winter - the hills of the peak district just visible over the horizon. |
