Summary
[edit]DescriptionSunart and Moidart from Beinn Resipol - geograph.org.uk - 1243462.jpg |
English: Sunart and Moidart from Beinn Resipol Loch Shiel and, further to the right, Loch Moidart. The large wet boggy area to the left of Loch Shiel is Claish Moss, a National Nature Reserve and classic raised bog, built up over millennia above the surrounding surface of the land by the differential growth of species of Sphagnum. Like the three bears, some like it wet, some like it dry, and some like it not too wet and not too dry. As a result a series of hummocks and hollows develop that get higher and higher as hollows become hummocks. The peaks of Rum can be seen in the distance across the Sounds of Rum and Arisaig. |
