Description
English: SULGRAVE, United Kingdom – Outside view of Sulgrave Manor in Sulgrave, United Kingdom. Sulgrave Manor is famous for having been the ancestral home of George Washington. The house, built in the mid-1500s, was built of local limestone, with a wide south frontage, a kitchen and buttery, a Great Hall, and above it a Great Chamber and two smaller private chambers. All these parts survive and can be seen today. The Great Hall has a stone floor, and its Tudor fireplace contains a salt cupboard carved with the initials of Lawrence Washington, the builder. Lawrence Washington, a Northampton wool-trader, is the great-great-great-great-great grandfather of George Washington. The Washingtons held the house for more than one hundred years.
