Merknad: I Norge er det Formannskapslovene fra 1837 som sikrer lokalt selvstyre gjennom kommunene. Kommuner på landet ble kalt herreder. Strinda herred var et eget lokaldemokrati i 127 år fra 1837 og fram til 1964 da Strinda ble integrert i Trondheim kommune. Ironisk nok hadde Strinda herred sine administrasjonslokaler plassert i Trondheim kommune; i Kjøpmannsgata 24.
