| Description |
Shanghai Xin Tian Di, which translates to "New Heaven" in Mandarin, is a big project by Shui On Group, a real estate company in Hong Kong. There are original "Shi Ku Men" houses, which are restored, and converted into a multitude of F&B outlets - bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants - and shops. There are also new buildings built within the development. Kind of like Bugis Junction and Clarke Quay in Singapore, but spankier. Xintiandi has won the national "Innovation China 2001 - Architecture Award", "AIA Hong Kong Citation 2002" and 2003 Award for Excellence from US-based Urban Land Institute. Interestingly, when Shui On was building this development, their goal was: "Yesterday meets tomorrow in Shanghai today". Although some people say that Xintiandi is expensive and rather touristy, I love the architecture of the place, and also like that every shop is different inside. |
