Description
Nederlands: Kaart van het KNMI met de getroffen plaatsen in Belgie en Nederland waar schade werd gemeld nav de zomerstorm van 1 augustus 1674. Die dag was een uitzonderlijke weersituatie ontstaan die in Noordwest-Europa grote schade aanrichtte door onder meer zware onweersbuien, hagel en windstoten. De storm trok vanuit het huidige Noord-Frankrijk over België en Nederland tot aan Noord-Duitsland. Het resulteerde in tal van ingestorte gebouwen, vele slachtoffers en een ontwricht maatschappelijk leven. In de stad Utrecht ontstond de grootste schade. Daar richtte een tornado een enorme ravage aan.
De auteurs melden bij de kaart: "Plaatsen waar schade gemeld is op 1 augustus 1674. De meest extreme schade, zoals ingestorte kerken (Hellouw, Asperen, Utrecht, Hippolytushoef, Den Ilp, Hoogwoude, Zandvliet) of op grote schaal verwoeste huizen (Turnhout, Zandvliet, Hilversum en Landsmeer), is gemeld in de zwart gekleurde plaatsen. Een voorzichtige reconstructie van de positie van het front is ingetekend."
